The two leagues revealed a historic partnership on Wednesday afternoon, revealing an extensive summer tournament that will pit some of women's soccer's best sides against each other. The first round of the competition will feature five groups, with one Liga MX Femenil side in four of them – and two in the fifth. Semifinals will take place in August, while the final is slated for two months later.

In a release, NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman expressed her excitement about the competition: "Today’s announcement marks a historic milestone for women’s soccer in North America and another significant step in the continued elevation of our global game. We’re excited to partner with LIGA MX Femenil to create additional competitive opportunities for our athletes, unlock new rivalries, tap into our collective fanbases and continue our shared mission of raising the value, visibility and global standard of our sport."
