According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United are interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Ivan Cavaleiro before this summer’s transfer window closes for business.
What’s the story?
Newcastle are believed to be working on a number of deals ahead of the closing of the transfer window, which will occur on Thursday at 5pm.
Magpies boss Rafael Benitez is believed to still want a centre-back and a left-back, but time is very much running out if the club are to get any more deals over the line.
According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle are also considering an approach for Wolves attacker Cavaleiro, whose position at Molineux is under threat following the arrival of Adama Traore.
The 24-year-old joined Wolves from Monaco in the summer of 2016, and has been impressive during his time in English football.
Newcastle will not be able to spend big on a new attacker in the closing stages of the window, but a deal for Cavaleiro – valued at £9m by Transfermarkt – could be very smart business.
Should Newcastle move for Cavaleiro?
Cavaleiro, who is a two-time Portugal international, scored five times during his first season at Wolves, before adding another nine during the 2017-18 campaign.

Indeed, the versatile attacker was extremely impressive last term as he managed nine goals and 12 assists in 42 Championship appearances, and will now be looking to test himself at Premier League level.
Cavaleiro actually won the Portuguese title during his time at Benfica, and after a difficult time at Monaco, has certainly kicked on once again since moving to Wolves.
Newcastle are fairly blessed in the wide positions, with Kenedy returning on loan from Chelsea this summer, but Cavaleiro’s ability to play in a number of positions in the final third would make him a very smart signing by Benitez.
It is unlikely that the Magpies would have to break the bank for the Portuguese’s signature, meanwhile, as Wolves seemingly have a ready-made replacement in Traore.
